News outlets today are abuzz with stories about blogs.

News outlets today are abuzz with stories about blogs. In January 2005, Fortune magazine featured a story called “Why There’s No Escaping the Blog.” In May of the same year, “Blogs Will Change Your Business” screamed from the cover of Business-Week. Blogs have become so hot that some mainstream TV news reporters are quoting from the more popular blogs on the air. Unfortunately, despite all the press coverage, little is being published about how blogs can benefit you and your business. Blogs are not only here to stay, but they will have an effect on your business. The question is, will you use blogs to benefit your business, or will you ignore them and perhaps experience a negative consequence that takes you completely by surprise?

The power of blogging has certainly taken some by surprise. A major bike lock company was shocked when news surfaced in blogs that a pen could be used to open one of its world-famous locks. It resulted in a huge financial hit for the company, which offered to exchange potentially faulty locks with different models. Thankfully, plenty of positive stories resulting from blogs have also surfaced—stories of companies embracing the world of blogging and seeing massive expansion, goodwill, and visibility as a result. Blogging is a communication tool, a marketing technique, a listening device, and a way to interact directly with customers one-to-one on a global scale. A business can learn a lot by reading blogs to determine what customers and non-customers alike are saying about the business. Your business can benefit by using
blogs to spread the word about what your company has to offer its customers and to gain immediate feedback from customers.

Perhaps you’ve seen blogging featured on the covers of major business magazines, or you’ve started seeing notices about blogging conferences around the world. Perhaps you are simply curious about this tool that could revolutionize the way you think about your customers and conduct business. No matter where you’re at in the spectrum, this book is for you. If you are interested in the future of your company, you need to understand blogging.

What Bloggers Should Do ( Basic Search Engine Optimization(SEO) Principles)

While some techniques are clearly beneficial to search engine rankings, bloggers should carry out their search engine optimization plan carefully. While I don’t read SEO blogs all the time, I used to get involved with the topic quite intensively for a few years.

SEO is certainly a topic that keeps changing — and improving. If you decide to drive blog traffic mainly from organic search, you should follow the development and stay up to date by subscribing to at least one SEO blog.

With that said, at the very least, you should implement the following:
o Produce quality content regularly.
o Research your keywords.
o Match content to the keyword you optimize for.
o Learn on-page optimization.
o Use clean and optimized blog theme / template / layout.
o Build inbound links.
o Bonus: Don’t get tricky!

Writing naturally while keeping search engine optimization in mind is often enough to make your blog pages rank quite well, so it is worth pursuing at least the basics.

Tips for Beginners on Using Twitter

When you sign up with Twitter for the first time, it feels odd to talk into the air without anyone listening. So the first challenge is to seek followers. Finding what topics to tweet about also is also something that many people struggle with.
I am first to admit that I was also confused about how to get started so don’t give up. That is expected. All twitterers have gone through it.

Here are a few suggestions that I think will help new Twitterers:
1. Fit in your work flow. If you are easily distracted, you may find yourself checking the Twitter client every so often. Refrain from doing so. It is better to check every one or two hours, each time for 3 minutes, than checking every 5 minutes for 30 seconds. While you will be twittering and responding less often, what’s more important is you don’t want to disturb your work flow.

2. Don’t follow aggressively. Although to be successful you need to deliver your message to people, that doesn’t mean you should follow everyone and hope him/her to follow you back. You will end up with too many tweets you feel overwhelmed.

3. Twitter is not instant messenger. Take conversations that don’t benefit your followers privately. That is what direct messages are for. People who look at your public timeline will less likely follow you because of the lack of substance as they see it. Existing followers may choose to un-follow too.

4. You don’t have to tweet often. Unless you have something to say, saying nothing is better than sending junk. Of course, if you know your strategy, you will have a plan to update a few times a day so your followers know you are there.
