Bridging The Gap Between Off-Line And On-Line Advertising :: A Superbowl Case Study

I just don’t get it. Advertisers spend millions of dollars for a 30 second or 1 minute spot in a football game yet in many cases they fail to follow through online.

I mean, if you are going to spend that much money to get your product visible wouldn’t you want to back that up somehow?

In this article I look at some of the shortcomings of a Super Bowl campaign and what I think advertisers should be doing about it.

So, Super Bowl 40 (sorry XL) has come and gone. Like so many other people I of course watched the game. Not so much for the game but for the commercials.

You see, Super Bowl Sunday is the time of year when many companies launch their year’s advertising program starting with an inaugural Super Bowl commercial.

And like every year, the usual suspects were there – Budweiser, GoDaddy, Pepsi and Coke to name just a few.

Now, there are some interesting things that took place with the commercials this year. For one thing, there were a lot of web properties hosting the ads online. Last year there were only a handful, but this year big names like Yahoo! and Google got into the ads.

Even the NFL website had the ads on its site appearing immediately following the game.

But what perplexes me is that none of these advertisers (except perhaps for GoDaddy) attempted to relate the offline advertising done during the game with anything they did online.

For example, if you were to take a look at any of the Pepsi, Coke or Budweiser websites before the game, you'd find no mention of the Superbowl. Pizza Hut did a little better job with the givaway of the boots Jessica Simpson wore during the commercial but that’s about it.

In today’s era of cross platform marketing I’m surprised that none of these sites really tried to build buzz leading up to the Super Bowl with their websites.

Further, there was little change to these sites during the game or even after. It’s as if the advertising during the game happens in a vacuum with no consideration for other media.

Granted they are spending millions for the right to have their ads show up during the game but in light of that I would think spending a few thousand to ensure the website helps further promote their message would be in order.

In fact it’s always bothered me when a company does TV advertising and the website doesn’t reflect the message found in the advertisement. There are only a few cases where I’ve found the website and the advertising work well together.

Geico, for example does a great job of tying their TV ads to their website. When you go to http://Geico.com one of the first things you see is the Gecko – their mascot.

So if Geico can do it, why don’t other companies?

I mean, if you look at the Coke or Pepsi websites you see they keep the branding intact but that’s about all they do. They don’t seem to reflect any current television promotion.

So while I was entertained by the commercials that weekend, I was also a little disappointed because that’s all they were – isolated bits of entertainment with little residual value because they didn’t tie in other forms of promotion. Namely their websites.

Really, when you look at how other TV ventures are embracing the web – with TV shows crossing over and working with web properties like AOL and Yahoo! you begin to wonder why advertisers don’t also integrate more fully.

I guess maybe it has to do with the whole marketing industry and the fact that they still don’t fully “get” the web. They know their clients need a website, but some of them don’t know why yet.

Many marketing execs fail to see the value of any type of online marketing even though it’s easier to measure the impact of an SEM campaign than any TV advertising campaign. With SEM, both Paid and SEO, you can track and measure visitors, impressions and conversions. With TV all you get is an estimate of total reach.

So to any Super Bowl advertisers who may read this please listen to this – to make your campaign really successful, why not try and integrate some of the marketing message into your website? You may be surprised at how successful it is.

The concept of internet marketing is comparatively new.

Too many links and banners:

It has developed alongside the emergence of Internet as a cost-effective customer building platform. Companies from all over the world are crowding the Internet to take part in this ever expanding commercial phenomenon. Online marketing involves both product promotion and traffic generation.

Links and banners are used mostly for traffic generation. But too many links and banners could adverse effect your site prospects. On one hand too many links can distract the visitor and chances of his getting lost are high. Every page must have a link back to the home page so that the viewer can find his way back even if he is lost. Links may take him away from an important page to an irrelevant one. If the reader sees too many links in your site he might get irritated and leave the site altogether.

From search engine optimization perspective outbound (links that lead to other sites) are not beneficial. Some search engine algorithms take into account the number of outbound links a site has, which in turn reduces search result rankings. This is one of the reasons why having too many links in your site may cause problems. Again links placed in your site must have some relevance to your site content. If links are placed as a part of link exchange program then links should be exchanged only with sites that may be useful to your visitors. If the links lead to another site then you can loose your customers to other sites. For this reason having too many links in important pages is not a good idea. Instead of placing links in every page you can place all the links in a link page which visitors can access if they want to.

Banners are more distractive than text links. Colorful banners can divert viewer attention away from text content. Irrelevant banners confuse the viewer. Moreover banner advertisements overload the page and make it slow.  If your site is taking a lot of time to load then chances are high that you are loosing valuable potential customers to competitor sites which take less than ten seconds to load. Moreover search engine algorithms also take into account site loading time. Sometimes free hosting services introduce graphic advertisements which make your site slow. Banners should be restricted to no more than two per page. For this reason one should be careful about placing banners and links in a site page.

Web 2.0 Internet marketing is the latest buzzword

A Few Pointers About Web 2.0 Internet Marketing

Web 2.0 Internet marketing is the latest buzzword, generating considerable interest in those who wish to market their products online. Online businesses have the opportunity to cash in using web 2.0 Internet marketing techniques that not only drives targeted traffic to their websites, but also helps them get better returns on their investments with least expenditures.

Web 2.0 Internet Marketing Strategies

Several web 2.0 Internet marketing tactics can be successfully employed by people who wish to make money online. You can make use of social networking websites, free video hosting websites, podcasts, blogs/forums, social bookmarking websites etc. to market your products or services. However, a few factors have to be considered before you can utilize any of the tactics.

Before you begin to consider the kind of web 2.0 Internet marketing tactics you use, you need to be aware of the fact that people use Internet primarily to look up information. Nothing can annoy people more than a self promotional sales pitch and so, instead of blatantly promoting it, you can lure loyal and regular visitors by providing accurate, updated information related to the products/services that you sell. You need to gain the trust of the visitors by giving them your honest opinions and present your website in such a fashion that they will assume that you are an authority on the subject. You can blog about topics related to the products/services you sell, write and submit informative articles to article directories with links to your website. You can also include your website’s url in your signature box. Many people believe that online video marketing is the best thing that can happen to marketers. You can create different interesting videos (controversial/humorous) and submit them to various videos hosting websites. You can ensure that they have links that lead the visitors back to your website. Such web 2.0 Internet marketing tactics are great to drive targeted traffic to your website, improving conversion rate and gaining your website higher rankings in search engines.

You can use video e-mail marketing, RSS feeds, and podcasts to further promote your products/services. This can be easy if you offered visitors opt in feature, enabling them to sign up for free newsletters, generating leads in the process. Your web 2.0 internet marketing tactics will be highly successful if you use quality content that has been created with care after analyzing your target market. The more controversial the content, text or video, the more your website becomes popular. Just be sure that you do not infringe any copyright laws or fair use doctrine. You need to keep updating the contents and device new ways to keep your visitors coming back for more. Once you have won over their trust and loyalty, you will find it easy to promote your products/services in a subtle and inoffensive manner most successfully.

Tips For Getting Those First 100 Monthly Blog Visitors

I monitor a lot of blogs, forums and news sites with my trusty RSS reader. One of my favorite sites is SitePoint, which is a terrific discussion forum for webmasters, programmers and domain name investors.

I’ve had some great conversations on the forums and via IM that have been very enlightening.

In a recent post, one of the SitePoint forum guys was lamenting the fact that he was having trouble getting to 100 unique visitors per day.

There was some good, solid advice that I would like to share and build upon:

1. Make sure your posts are optimized with popular keywords. I would be careful with this one because you don’t want to lose your blogging voice or make your pages read awkwardly by jamming in as many keywords as you can. Do check for the most popular keywords in your universe, though, using a tool like WordTracker. As a poster on SitePoint said, using the competition values in WordTracker allows you to pick keywords that haven’t soaked the web yet.

2. Use a service like PinGoat to ping blogger indexing sites every time you change your site. Pinging is basically extending an invitation to indexing services like Technorati, IceRocket and Feedster to come to your site and index it. The more indexing you get, the more exposure you get. PinGoat is a terrific service that pings them all at the same time.

3. Update your Google Sitemap every few posts and resubmit it. A Google Sitemap is an interesting and amazing phenomenon. Here is how Google explains it:

The Google Sitemaps program is two-way communication between webmasters and Google. You can give us information about your site so we can index it more effectively, and we can show you how we see your site and tell you about any trouble we’ve had crawling it.

Basically you create a special xml file and tell Google to go look at it. It uses the file to better index the site. And it definitely works. There’s even a Plugin for WordPress that will build the perfect sitemap for Google. You can read more about sitemaps by visiting the Google Sitemapspage.

4. Post relevant comments on blogs related to your content area. Look around, find people blogging about the same stuff as you. Monitor their blog sites and participate in the discussion. Be sure to include a link to your site in all of your comments. It’s a great way to correspond with like-minded people and get your name and site name out there.

5. Search for link partners and link exchanges at least once a week. If you find a site you like, include it on your link page and drop the site owner an email. He or she will most likely list your site as well. Join a couple of free or cheap link exchange sites and stick to your subject area when exchanging links. Always visit the prospective link exchange site and ask yourself if you would be doing your readers a service by sending them to that site. If not, don’t link to the site.

6. Write great content, and don’t plug stuff unless you are familiar with it and approve of it. If you write interesting content about subjects that interest people they will always find you. Don’t hustle your readers — if you are going to plug something for money, make sure the product or service is something you would use and recommend. If people sense a hustle they will not convert and they will not come back.

7. Watch your keywords and make sure they are performing. DigitalPoint has a terrific tool that will help you track your keyword placement over time so you can see how your efforts are doing.

8. Perform some basic Search Engine Optimization. Learn how to not only optimize your posts, but optimize your entire site. You can get some great tips and tools at SeoChat.com

9. Shake loose a couple of bucks and buy some ad space. Once you’re certain your blog looks and operates perfectly, spend $100 on Adsense ads and see how that helps.

10. Be patient. It isn’t going to happen overnight. It will take weeks or months to get things rolling.

The Real Value of Online Marketing Tools & Those Freebies

The other day I happened upon a site where I was invited to subscribe to the webmaster's ezine. All good and well and of course good marketing to have a subscribe page and way of capturing visitors emails on your site.

Well I produce a newsletter and I think it is fairly good quality. I would have no idea what to value it at, after all only the subscriber can properly put a perceived value on the ezine they receive.

And what about all these ebooks which apparently have a resale value of $47, or $97 or more. Who are you going to get to buy these ebooks when everywhere you look the same ebooks are being given out for free.

Many websites and sales pages will attempt to persuade you to buy their product by throwing in a large number of bonuses worth hundreds of dollars of course and what are they, the same old ebooks again. And while some of these ebooks are actually worth reading, they now have no real value as they are distributed for free everywhere you look.

If you want to get someone to signup for your newsletter or buy your product or service you need to offer something of real value something they cannot get hold of anywhere else, or certainly not for the price you are offering it at.

If you produce a newsletter or report, don't place a fictious value on it that cannot be backed up. We are so used to having freebies, bonuses, extras etc pushed in our faces that they no longer really work and to stand out from the crowd, you need to be different. Stick to real quality, proper value and you will get subscribers, sales and signups.

Web design through web building software can be a relatively easy and inexpensive way to learn web design skills.

Affiliate Revenue – A Web Design Test Case

Maybe you have dreamed of personally developing a website for either personal or business use. If this is true of you then you might consider affiliate revenue sharing programs as a means of trying out your web designing skills while offering you the opportunity to offset, fund entirely or even make additional income through an affiliate revenue program.

Web design through web building software can be a relatively easy and inexpensive way to learn web design skills. You could, of course, build a website for personal reasons, but the discipline of developing an ecommerce site can be helpful in practicing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) skills. This web design test case can be enhanced when you have the potential of a residual income stream essentially paying you for learning the skills of web design.

Web builder technology is a useful tool because it is intuitive for customers who have never personally developed a website and can help guide them through most design difficulties they may encounter. The ultimate web design is customizable in many ways allowing essential creative freedom in design while maintaining proper flow and balance for the overall site
.

When a website is optimized well in relation to accepted SEO techniques the result is high placement in search engines and greater traffic to your site.

Should you work to make an affiliate revenue program your test case for web design you always have the ability to develop additional sites and cross-link those sites to assist in even greater traffic building efforts. For many entrepreneurs there is a fear about the possibility of developing a site without the aid of the long established web master. However, by accessing an affiliate revenue program you have both reason and opportunity to develop a site on your own.

Reason – It is only by developing the site that you actually have the opportunity to derive a return on your site design investment.

Opportunity – When you develop a site and your SEO strategies start to bring in more traffic you begin to see the possibilities that may exist in a business of your own.

Many individuals have even developed a series of affiliate revenue sites. These sites have, in some instances, exceeded typical monthly expenses for their families. This didn’t happen overnight and it certainly didn’t occur without a solid SEO strategy, but in many cases an individual can make a living working exclusively with affiliate revenue sharing programs.

Web design using web building software combined with an interest in affiliate revenue programs can be a combination that pays off in increased web design expertise as well as residual payments that have the potential to exceed your current standard of living.

You’ll notice I used the word ‘potential’. Affiliate revenue programs vary widely in success and SEO strategies can take a while to realize maximum results. While affiliate revenue programs can perform beyond expectations they can also be stagnant in results. Research the product you are wanting to sell and ask for some actual figures (not best results) to gain a clear idea of the expectations you should have when signing on as an affiliate.

Uncover why most website designers and Internet Marketing Do Not Mix

Website development is an important and crucial first step to creating an online business. The investment made in your website design can be a large investment and you probably want a website that is an extension of your business and display your products or service in a professional way.
Beware, just because a website is amazing to look at, this does not mean it work well with all of your Internet Marketing efforts.

Most of the time the websites are created with out the thought or planning of good quality content, sites are also employing mainly flash design as well as complicated navigation set up making exploring your site frustrating.Surprisingly Internet Marketing and Website Design seem to be clashing rather than complimenting each other. Do you ever ask yourself why isn’t your website performing well online no matter what you do?

What causes a beautiful, appealing website to fall short in search engines?

Most cases seem to point to the fact that some website designers do not consider the importance of Internet Marketing when putting together websites for there customers. Some web designers seem to be strictly focused on the graphical components and forget or do know about the Search Engine Marketing, Internet Marketing aspects of most websites.

Internet Marketing may be less of an importance if site is mainly a Business to Business website but in the ecommerce business, websites really depend on SEO Internet Marketing for its overall success.

Websites that fall short in Internet Marketing can lead to very expensive and needed redesigns for your site, changing different components of your pages to make it search engine friendly as well as easy navigation for site exploration although some changes may be less extreme than others. This can cause major set backs in business goals. Build and design your website around the content not the other way around.

Before you decide on a website designer, make positive that the design will be user friendly as well as friendly for Internet Marketing procedures. Shop around, ask questions, see if the designer understands the importance of certain SEO priorities and keep them informed about what your looking to accomplish.

Design a site that is easily expandable as well as easily adjusted to fit your Internet Marketing, SEO needs or have your SEO Consultant suggest a web designer to work with, insuring everything will function the way your website was intended to function. This just may help prevent costing you much more than you ever expected and it will also help your business goals to remain on the track to success.

4 Quick and Easy Insider Tips To Turbo-Charge Your Google Adwords’ Sales

You want to boost your clickthrough rates and slash your advertising costs moments from now, then pay close attention. Because you're about to uncover 4 surefire techniques to dominate your Adwords' listings… practically wiping-out your competition at the same time.Best of all, they're quick and easy to apply.

1. Experiment with dynamic headlines - Dynamic headlines replace your normal ad headline with what the searcher types in. So, if the searcher types, “Furniture”, this appears in the headline. And if the searcher types in a search phrase that can't fit, such as “Affordable quality furniture,” then it reverts back to your default headline.. Use it by inputting, “{KeyWord:Quality Furniture}” in the headline portion of your ad. “Quality Furniture” is your default headline.

Also, note that the “K” and “W” are capitalized in “KeyWord”. This means that the first letter in each search phrased is capitalized. For instance, “Fun Furniture,” instead of “Fun furniture” (if you had “Keyword”).
Dynamic headlines almost always significantly boost clickthrough rates. But, they also sometimes reduce the quality traffic you get.

You should experiment with dynamic headlines. If you find that an Ad Group is producing low-quality traffic, then you would toss the dynamic headline… and add a qualifier instead. Some examples of a qualifier are to add a price to your ad, using the words “For serious customers only”, “buy now”, or to use words that call-out targeted customers to click on your ad. Also, try adding words around the dynamic headline, such as, “Unique {Keyword:Furniture}”. This works best in Ad Groups with only a few keywords.

2. Test ad positions - because the highest one isn't always the best.

Keep in mind, the number 1 position usually produces the MOST traffic. However, it does not always produce the BEST quality traffic.

Instead, you can continually adjust your bids (based on several days data) to target lower positions instead. Depending on your market, you may target position three or four.
Remember, many bidders daily budgets cut off their campaigns near the end of the day. This means you get their top positions for a fraction of the cost!

3. How to use site selection correctly - The site selection option allows advertisers to place their ads on specific content sites. It is a completely different animal than search traffic. And varies from normal content ads.
Because instead of paying per click, you're paying for impressions (or how many times your ad is seen). This can be a lifesaver for some businesses and a waste of money for others. It depends on the market. Some markets produce terrible results with search traffic. But, are great for selected sites. Why?

Well, usually it's because a market is in its infancy. And your target market is NOT searching for what your have to offer. Instead, the only way they can be reached is in their communities. You must go to them. These communities might be blogs, discussion forums, or news sites. An example, might be a tool that creates video blogs.

Very few people are looking to do this. But, LOT'S of normal blog publishers may easily be convinced that this is something they need to be doing. The bottom line - if you get good results with search traffic, then you probably want to pay per click for your content advertising. The only exception is if you have a killer ad (that generates lots of clicks). Because it will be cheaper to pay for impressions.

4. Put your best performing text ad on your banner.

Most advertisers either stick only with text ads. Or they use ineffective banner ads. These are costly mistakes. The smart way to do it is to find a very effective text ad.
Then, put it on your banner ad. You will find that these normally out-perform your text ads. And will be your most profitable. Images may say a thousands words, but it's the right words that close more sales!

How To Know What To Pay For Web Design

How do you know what to pay for web design? Do you go strictly on what you can afford or what you need? Web design is the creative presentation similar to the printed brochure, but that is where the similarity stops. Unlike a printed brochure, your web site is interactive. It is seen by millions of people. It is not limited to the hundred or even thousand that your sales people send and use as a leave behind after an in-person sales presentation. People visiting your website can respond instantly in ways other than a telephone call. Visitors can buy your products and services immediately. These are just a few of the differences.

Most people know about these differences. But when deciding what to pay for your website, these differences make a good yardstick. Another consideration is to weigh the outcome you want from your website.

1. Use your company brochure as a yardstick.

Let's not make this comparison using an investment in the popular tri-fold brochure. That's like comparing apples to oranges to use a tired old cliche. No, let's use your company's capabilities brochure. Say you ordered copywriting, graphic design and printing for a full-size 8 1/2 x 11 inch, 4-color brochure, 8 pages with a 4-page cover that weighs a bit more than the interior pages. This is a typical format. What do you suppose the cost is for your new capabilities brochure. $500? $800? $1200? If you own a capabilities brochure such as the one I just described, you know that the copy probably ran from $400-$800; graphic design $400 - $800; and 4-color printing and bindery $800 - $1200. Your total cost is from $1600 - $2800 and you haven't distributed one brochure to a potential buyer. Also, you have not factored in in the envelope cost, cover letter cost, enclosed business card cost, and postage. Yikes! It is starting to be clear just what a printed brochure can cost. Now, ponder on the redo costs if you need to make any changes to the copy, such as your telephone number, address, new products. It is a big bite out of the old apple, isn't it. You are going to need a complete redo and reprint. Ouch!

The investment in a website looks pretty good right now, doesn't it?

2. Now, let's look at the outcome you want from your website.

Sales! Most businesses have a website to support sales. Directly or indirectly. A standard brochure web design and development investment less than $2800 is going to have a higher outcome than that capabilities brochure. There's no doubt about it. But if you want to enable your web site to accept payment online, you're going to need a shopping cart. What about a way for people to signup for your mailing list. Do you want to add a newsletter to your site. Articles? Blog? RSS feed? Forum? Chat? Photo gallery?

These web enhancements turn your site into a unique landing place that people want to visit and buy from. Security features add credibility to further show visitors your business is real and can be trusted.

All these enhancements support your overall outcome to build sales revenue using the web as a new business channel. If that's your planned outcome, spare no expense to create the web site you need to deliver results: Your full-featured web site - loaded with special enhancements - suited for your particular business pay for itself ... easily. It is an investment, not a cost like your printed brochure.

Ezine article writing is a proven method of generating traffic to your site.

After reading your interesting article, the reader clicks on your link in the last paragraph to learn more. Every article I have read about Ezine article writing has been quite honest in stating that Ezine is a proven traffic generator, but that it requires work. That is does. If you are a newbie, this article has information that will get you off to the right start. If you are an experienced article writer, let us review the steps to see why the process requires so much work, and what we can do to lessen the time required.
The first step is to write an interesting article on a particular subject. The article should be over 500 words, as that is a requirement of most submittal sites. Be sure to read the Submittal Guidelines of each site before submitting your article.
Next comes the preparation of a list of sites to submit your article. The person who said "easier said than done" must have been an Ezine article writer! The accepted guideline is to submit your article to at least 100 sites, but the more the better. Using Internet sources I made a list of 100 sites, but as I checked them out the list was suddenly reduced to 25. Some sites were no longer in operation, some were simply not article submit sites, others were subject specific, not applicable to my subject, and other problems. Eventually, from a list of around 300, I finally compiled my initial list of 100 sites to submit my article. This was a time consuming task.
Next comes the submitting of your article to various article sites. This is pretty straightforward. Visiting a site for the first time will require becoming a member. This involves filling out a short information form, perhaps submitting a photo, and then activating your account from the authorization sent to your listed e-mail address. Subsequent logins to the site are much faster as one can go directly to Member Sign In and then to Submit Articles. Now it is time to submit your article. Select a Category, then cut and paste each element of your article from your word processor to the data input form on the site. Cut and paste the Title, Summary, Body, Resource Box, Bio info, and Keywords into the form on the site. Sounds easy, it is easy, but again a tedious time consuming process.
Recognizing this as a very real problem, a number of innovative companies have come up with tools to lessen the time required to submit an article. No, I am not talking about Robot systems that are frowned upon. In fact, even if such systems were allowed would you really want the article that you worked so hard on, submitted without seeing that it was done properly?

This is where the article submitter program comes into play. These programs allow you to submit your articles to hundreds of article directories and can save you an incredible amount of time in doing so. You simply enter your article details into the software once, and then select the directory you would like to submit to. The software will then, automatically fill in all of the submission criteria for each directory and allow you to quickly submit your articles.

Try one of these programs, and take advantage of one of the easiest ways to submit articles and generate traffic to your website. Stop wasting time on list building and cutting and pasting.

How the Internet Has Forever Changed Marketing

In the last few years, consumers have changed the way they find what they want, and where they want to get it. Business supplies, concert tickets, and that perfect gift are now on the web, and that's where many people are going. In the past consumers have responded to direct mail, cold calling, and trade shows in addition to conventional advertising. Those methods are less effective than the internet and also harmful to the environment through toxic ink, paper waste, fuel costs, and other excess energy consumption. With the use of search engines, it is now easy to filter out gimmicks and find what we are looking for directly. The tools are at the tips of our fingers and unlimited. We have access to search engines, social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter), and blogs where we can find information as well as reviews on those services or products we are researching. Therefore, marketers must change their tactics to accommodate how the internet is changing business.

Inbound Marketing is now far more effective. The internet and the emergence of sites such as Google, MSN, Yahoo, Digg and other sites, allow consumers to research what they are looking for without involving the companies directly. "The internet has changed the dynamics of the business world, necessitating from 'old marketing' techniques to 'new marketing' techniques" (hubspot). Business owners now need to ensure that their website is optimized for this. Website content matters, as well as the location of key words or phrases. To optimize a website, key words must be in the page title, headings, URL, and in the page text. Keeping content fresh and updated is another good way to increase search engine rankings, especially when used in conjunction with viral videos, podcasts, and YouTube videos.

By adding simple tools such as a blog, a site owner creates a unique opportunity for search engine optimization (SEO). However, keep in mind that the blog set up with its own webpage for the best results. Websites are also setting up RSS Feeds. This allows consumers to have their favorite websites send them updates, as opposed to going to each website and searching for the information. Most people have very busy lifestyles and don't have time to waste. By simply adding this feature, websites are ensuring more visits to their site.

Social networking is a huge way to market to consumers, with 34% believing that businesses should be involved with a social network, while 51% believe they should also interact with consumers through a networking site. After a website has established itself and has more visitors, the designers should add an online form for visitors to register for updates, newsletters or give-a-ways. This also generates new leads for the business. Credible inbound links also generate more traffic to your website and rank your site higher on the search engines.

With all of the "new" technology out there, it is far more effective for advertising dollars to utilize the web and market to consumers in the format that is easiest for them. By capitalizing on the efficiency of the web, businesses can track past search results, and optimize their pages for future searchers. Businesses can also measure numbers of web visitors, website conversion rates (Leads / Visitors), lead conversion rates (Sales from Leads / Leads), and costs per lead or per sale. With the abundance of the marketing tools available online, websites create a relationship with future and current visitors in a cost efficient and "green" way.

Internet Marketing Pitfalls - Newbie Beware

There are many places you can find people who can help teach you the ins and outs of Internet Marketing but be fore warned. Some of the people who will give you advice don't really know what they are talking about. They are just handing you third hand information that they heard from someone else, it sounds good, but they haven't even tried it. So they REALLY don't know what they are talking about.

Another thing to watch out for are the so called Guru's. Yes there are people who live, eat, sleep and breath Internet Marketing. They know all there is to know about how to make money using the tactics they have adopted. So you might be asking right now...

Why should I watch out for the Guru's when they know it all?

You would think that they would be EXCELLENT mentors right? The thing is that they can send out an email and the next day they have $10,000 in their bank accounts. That is because they have existing lists. YOU DON'T! And it has been a very long time since this mentor has had to start from scratch (in most cases).

Also, because they have YEARS under their belt, they might have forgotten what it was like to be a newbie. So when they are teaching you, quite often they miss small but crucial pieces of the puzzle. It is these small pieces of the puzzle that will either make you rich or make you give up.

There are literally thousands of people willing to give you a hand. Just be careful what hand you take. You might be getting information that is either incomplete, obsolete or incorrect.

The best advice I can give you is to not jump at the first offer for mentorship that you run across. Even if it is free! Especially if it is free.

If someone offers to be your mentor, check into their credentials. How long they have been doing Internet Marketing, how successful they have been, if they have a product of their own that they sell, if they personally have affiliates for that product, etc...

Something else you could do is ask around. Find a Forum of Internet Marketers and ask some of the members there if they have heard of so-and-so.

Speaking of Forums, it is highly recommended that you join a forum. They are free and full of very valuable information. I suggest that if you do check out the Internet Marketer's Forums, just look around for awhile to get the feel for it. If something you read raises a question, use the forums search tool to see if there is a post that can answer it.

Finding the right niche to make money on in Internet Marketing is one of the most important steps in becoming a successful Internet Marketer. At ImtiazTips we offer FREE information on how to find the right niche.

Internet Marketing--Various Online Business Models

There are many different methods of making an online income. In reality, they are all very similar to the business models you see in the offline world. You can sell goods and services.

Do you see a common theme in all of these models? That’s right---to have a viable business, you have to literally provide some kind of a good or service that adds value to someone or something, either online or offline.

I think that when people think about going into business offline, they look for a need in their community and try to fill it. Online, they tend to think, OK, what can I do to make a lot of money? There is a huge difference between the two. Online, I think people really believe that if they put up a web site and sell something, the money will just come in. It is simply not an accurate thought, but I think that just about everybody has thought it at one time or another.

So to create an income online, you must meet a need, just like you would in the offline world. You meet that need by producing, developing, distributing, or brokering a product or service. That is just about it. You will never earn long-term viable income from schemes and scams, no more than a bank robber will earn a long-term viable income robbing banks.

Here are some of the basic business models you can find on the web:

1) Production model. This is a company that produces value by transforming one good into another for online consumption. An offline equivalent would be a shoemaker or a gold mining firm. The online equivalent might be the development of new software or search technology, or the development of online technology that aids in the execution of some of the other online business models.

2) Merchant model. This is a company that specializes in the sales and organizes the delivery of goods and services to an online market. This can be compared to the offline equivalent of a merchant. Some examples online are bookstores, food stores, catalog web sites and other goods and services sales organizations.

3) Advertising model. This is a company that specializes in providing the service of advertising or promotion to other online firms, for example, those firms that operate using the production or merchant model. This model charges these companies a fee to advertise the goods and services provided by the other online business models.

4) Affiliate model. This is a model that resembles the advertising model, but is different in that it focuses on recruiting many individual companies or individuals to do the advertising in a systematic and piecemeal way. Whereas in the advertising model, the advertiser is paid based on the amount of advertising distributed, the affiliate model pays the affiliate marketer when a sale or step in a sales process is completed. This step may be an online visit, a request for more information, or the actual sale itself.

5) Brokerage model. This model is one that compensates the broker for bringing together buyer and seller, usually in the form of a personal, one-on-one introduction. An example of this might be an online auction or a processor of online payments.

6) Information model. The information business model is one in which the company provides information to a specific field or niche market. This information would typically instruct another company or individual on an easier or more efficient method of performing a task, or actually teach the task or the implementation of the task.

7) Subscription model. This is an overlay model, one which is generally incorporated into one of the other models. This model would provide a good or service over a protracted period of time, and provide a guaranteed and generally consistent level of that good or service for a period of time, for example over the course of several months. Two products that fit into this subscription model might be that of online monthly video rentals or services like food or medicines which are delivered on a regular basis by commitment.

8) Utility model. This model operates in much the same way as an offline utility might operate, offering a product that has, through its use, become a necessity and is often tightly controlled. An example of an online utility model would be that of internet access or telephone service via an online network.

9) Community model. This is a business model that focuses on bringing together individuals or companies of similar interest for the purpose of developing relationships and sharing information. Two examples of the community web phenomenon are the recently created Myspace and the older online forum.

When deciding to go into business online, it is important to determine which of these business models most interest you. To which of these models are you best suited? In which of these models are you most likely to be considered an expert, or in which would you have the willingness to become an expert?

You Can Write Ads Too

The art of writing advertisements is something most people think they don't possess. I hear so many people say that they don't possess the ability to create ads that get results. The proverb that writers are born and not created takes over the thought pattern. I'm telling you to put those thoughts aside and open your eyes and your mind.

If you are in the business of Internet marketing, you probably read many advertisements each week. If you have the desire to improve your ad writing abilities, take the time and look at other ads. Don't just skim over them and dismiss them. Actually take the time and study which ads grab your attention. Take those that are appealing and copy them to a file.

Set aside some time and look at those ads that caught your attention. Look at each individual ad and see what part of that ad grabbed your attention. Make a list of the points that were appealing to you and things that you feel would catch the attention of others.

Now that you have identified some things that you believe made these ads successful, it is time to use that information for your own benefit. At first, substitute your product or advertising information in some of the ads that you like. Then start making small variations to these ads to make them original. Keep working in this fashion and pretty soon, you will be thinking up your own variations and original ads that will sound catch as well.

This is one way to get the creative juices flowing. Most people have a difficult time getting new ideas for ads. Using other successful or appealing ads as a guideline, can sometimes get you over the hump and started towards writing your own successful ads. Don't just substitute your product or business idea into another ad and leave it at that, make it your own work.

Advertising is such an important part of your online business, so spend some time and work on your ad writing abilities. With a little practice, you will be amazed at the thoughts that start flowing.

3 Ways Coaches Can Use Their Site To Get More Clients

Coaches have a big challenge when seeking clients. They are selling the unknown. By unknown, I mean that most people who can benefit from coaching, whether it be business coaching or personal coaching, either never heard of it or don't really understand how it works. When people work with a coach for the first time, there usually comes a point when they say “a ha!” and are better able understand the value they can get.

So trying to get clients can seem like a catch-22. In order to hire you, they need a strong sense of what you do. But to get that sense they need to work with you first. It's because of this hurdle that direct selling or direct response methods like cold calling or placing ads don't work. Those channels don't get you clients directly.

Dealing with this challenge can be frustrating for many new coaches. They really want to help their clients succeed in their business or in their life, but getting the prospect to sign on the dotted line doesn't happen as often as they would like.

So how can coaches deal with selling the unknown? Make it known and use your web site to do it!

Here are 3 ways:

1 – Write web site copy in terms of “what they do know.” - Prospective clients can relate to their pains and troubles. Their pains and troubles might include not having enough time in a day, trouble sleeping at night, or not making enough money. They can also relate to where they want to be in the future. Some examples could be having lots of income, having peace of mind and having a happier life. So when you are writing about your services, be sure to start with things your prospect already knows about, such as their pains and their desires.

Additionally, case studies and testimonials of others you have helped would further your prospect's understanding of what you do. These examples are most effective if they are written in terms of initial problems and end results.
By explaining what you do in terms they know directly, you better communicate what you do. When prospects clearly see what they can get from working with you they are more excited and more interested in working with you.

2 – Give away free information. - Compile an article or report that is helpful to your target prospects. Choose a topic that is directly related to their problems or situations. Then make that report available on your web site for download.

This strategy has a lot of value: • Everyone likes free helpful stuff, so they will take action to get it. • Once created, giving it out takes almost no time to do. • It tells the the prospect that you know their about their business, thus making you a good choice for helping them. • Sending people to your web site creates another relationship building “touch.” • People can refer this report to other people, increasing your visibility.

3 - Give away a free online assessment. - Create a series of questions on your web site. Then invite your visitor to answer them in return for a score and an interpretation of that score. This gives them helpful information about themselves and gives them a sample of what you do. This technique has a lot of value similar to the report idea. It's free, doesn't take a lot of time or money to implement, it is automated, it gives value, and it can be referred to others.

Additionally, you can determine which prospects have stronger needs based on their responses. With that information, you can target your sales efforts towards them and increase your closing rate.

In conclusion, use your web site as a tool for educating your prospects. Doing this will gain more trust and grow the relationship until they eventually become your paying client.

When it comes to web design, there are so amazing designers out there.

3 Traits Of Quality Seo Web Design:

When it comes to web design, there are so amazing designers out there. Most web designers are very creative and have a strong artistic background. They are able to use their artistic talents to create layouts that are guaranteed to catch the eye of your visitors. Unfortunately, there is one major thing that most web designers are missing. The majority of web designers are not familiar with the concepts and implementation of search engine optimization techniques. Even if a web designer has at least some basic knowledge of SEO, the majority do not worry about implementing search engine optimization strategies into their designs.

While this may seem like a trivial detail, it can actually be the root of some major problems. No matter how attractive your web site is, if it is not indexed by the major search engines, the traffic it receives is going to be minimal. Once you realize this is happening, you are going to have to hire someone with SEO knowledge to fix your layout. Therefore, you may end up paying double for something that should have been done the first time around. Whether you are a web designer or someone getting ready to hire a web designer, here are three traits of quality SEO web design:

Usability: As a general rule of thumb, if the design of a web site makes it easy for your human visitors to navigate, it will also be relatively easy for search engine robots to access, crawl and index your web site. Making your site user (and search engine) friendly includes minimizing (or completely eliminating) things such as Flash, Javascript navigation and layouts designed with tables. By designing with usability in mind, you can be sure that your visitors and the search engines will be happy with your web site.

Avoid Being Sneaky: Because web designers are generally very creative people, they like to push the envelope when it comes to designing web sites. Although this mentality can result in some truly amazing web layouts, it can also cause problems if taken too far. When creating a web site layout, it is important to keep the web master guidelines of search engines like Google in mind. Incorporating things like hidden text into your designs is a sure way to get penalized (or de-indexed) by search engines. It is ok to push the envelope with your designs, but just make sure that you avoid doing anything that the search engines tell you not to do.

Onpage SEO: Although this is the last item on the list, it is actually the most important. On-page SEO is the basis for quality SEO web design. It is vital that properly implement things such as title, meta, H1 and H2 tags, along with internal linking and the other key components of on-page search engine optimization. Taking the time to employ these practices will make a significant difference in where your web site ranks in the search engines.

How To Utilize Free Classified Ad Sites To Boost Business

Niche marketing is about finding small opportunities on the web, small areas in which people might be interested and for which they might be searching. Big companies and experienced webmasters are not interested in these areas because they are not important enough. But a small business could be something in which you might be interested.

Perhaps a small mini website will not generate thousands of dollars every month; it might generate 100 bucks, for example. That is ok, if the effort involved in terms of creating this mini website is not too high; in this way, you could repeat the same business model again and again. Taking into consideration that every small business could generate around $100 every month, with ten niches, you could earn $1.000 monthly. Does this sound better? And what if you could create 50 websites?

The first step in this kind of business is always keyword research. You need to find small markets which do not have competition. Wordtrack is a very good tool to use for finding niche opportunities. For every keyword, it tells you the number of searches and how many results are found on each search engine. You need to pay special attention to the KEI column. KEI is the index that balances the number of searches and the number of competitors. The more searches and the fewer the competitors, the better for you. A KEI higher than 10 is good, but you should, ideally, look at keywords with a KEI over 100. More than 400 is a gift.

Once you have identified your niche, you need to find content for it. Don`t worry about which product you are going to sell; this will come later. The “fuel” of any Internet business is content. So where can you find content? Well, if you are an expert in an area, you could write your own articles, but if you are not, you have to look for content somewhere else.

There are many article directories that offer a lot of content that you can use. You can also find much content just by searching the web. Use search engines, find blogs, forums, websites, etc. Last, but not least, you can always find information as in “the old times,” go to the library or buy one or two books.

After you have found enough content, it is time to register a domain name. You should choose a name that has something to do with your target market, but if your intention is to create multiple mini websites, you don’t need to register a different domain name every time. You can save money by having one global domain name, and create sub domains for each business.

You need to follow this 3 step formula (CTM):

=> Create Content => Generate Traffic => Monetize your website

You can build traffic by optimizing the webpage content for the search engines and by analyzing your competitors in order to build a better SEO strategy (but this is another chapter). Blogging and pinging is a way to make sure that your site will be spidered by the search engines. Wordpress is a very good option for creating your blog, as it allows you to post, not only articles, but pages. You can easily build miniwebsites with Wordpress. Finally, there are three easy ways to earn money with your site.

1. Sell some product that you can create yourself. If you have this ability and you want to allow people to buy your products with a credit card, the easiest way is to create a Paypal account. If you don’t have one, visit www.paypal.com and create one.

2. Join affiliate programs. Find people who sell products related to your market niche and who have affiliate programs already set up. You will earn commissions just by selling other people’s items. A good place to find affiliate programs on products is www.clickbank.com.

3. Google Adsense. Create an account at Google Adsense and include Google ads on your site. Every time someone visits your site and clicks one of those ads, Google will share its profit with you.

Creating small businesses is like a game. They do not require high investment, but they will not make you rich either. However, if you start playing many of those games, it can become a serious business.

Could The New Google Spider Be Causing Issues With Websites?

Around the time Google announced "Big Daddy," there was a new Googlebot roaming the web. Since then I've heard stories from clients of websites and servers going down and previously unindexed content getting indexed.
I started digging into this and you'd be surprised at what I found out.

First, let's look at the timeline of events:

In fact, it was in this thread:
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/25897-9-10.htm that the bot was first reported on. It concerned some posters who thought that perhaps this could be regular users masquerading as the famous bot.
Early on it also appeared that the new bot wasn't obeying the Robots.txt file. This is the protocol which allows or denies crawling to parts of a website.

Speculation grew on what the new crawler was until Matt Cutts mentioned a new Google test data center
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/good-magazines/#comment-5293. For those that don't know, Matt Cutts is a senior engineer with Google and one of the few Google employees talking to us "regular folk." This mention happened in November.

There wasn't much mention of Big Daddy until early January of this year when Matt again blogged about it asking for feedback.
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/bigdaddy/

Much feedback was given on the accuracy of the results. There were also those that asked if the Mozilla Googlebot (known as "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" in your visitor logs) and Big Daddy were related, but no response was made.

Now I'm going to begin some of my own speculation:

I do in fact believe the two are related. In fact, I think this new crawler will eventually replace the old crawlers just as Big Daddy will replace the current data infrastructure.
http://www.textlinkbrokers.com/blogs/comments/310_0_1_0_C/

Why is this important?

Based on my observations, this crawler may be able to do so much more than the old crawler. For one, it emulates a newer browser. The old bot was based on the Lynx text based browser. While I'm sure Google added features as time went on, the basic Lynx browser is just that – basic. Which explains why Google couldn't deal with things like JavaScript, CSS and Flash. However, with the new spider, built on the Mozilla engine, there are so many possibilities.
Just look at what your Mozilla or Firefox browser can do itself – render CSS, read and execute JavaScript and other scripting languages, even emulate other browsers. But that's not all.

I've talked to a few of my clients and their sites are getting hammered by this new spider. It has gotten so bad that some of their servers have gone down because of the volume of traffic from this one spider!

On the plus side, I have clients who went from a few hundred thousand indexed pages to over 10 million in just a few weeks! Literally since December, 2005 there's been a 3500% increase in indexed pages over an 8 week period! Just so you know, this is also the client's site that went down because of the huge volume of crawling happening.
But that's still not all.

I have another client which uses IP recognition to serve content based on a person's geographic location. If you live in the US you get American content and pricing; if you live in the UK you get UK content and pricing. As you may imagine, the UK, US, Canadian and Australian content is all very similar. In fact about the only thing noticeably different is the pricing aspect.

This is my concern – if the duplicate content gets indexed by Google what will they do? There's a good chance that the site would be penalized or even banned for violation of the webmaster quality guidelines set forth by Google here:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html#quality
This is why we implemented IP recognition – so that Googlebot, which crawls from US IP addresses only sees one version of the site. However, a review of the server logs shows that this new Googlebot has been visiting not only the US content but also the content of the other sections of the site. Naturally, I wanted to verify that the IP recognition was working. It is. This leads me to wonder then; can this browser spoof its location and/or use a proxy?
Imagine that – the browser is smart enough to do some of its own testing by viewing the site from multiple IP addresses. If that's the case then those who cloak sites are going to have problems.

In any case, from the limited observations I've made, this new Google – both the data center and the spider – are going to change the way we do things.
