Site architecture used to be pretty straightforward. You market a home page and let your users use your navigation to find the content on the rest of your site.
That’s fine if your site just has a handful of Web pages, al of them covering just one topic. But for sites that have hundreds or thousands of posts on a range of different subjects, you need to have multiple entry points, or gateways.
So if you have a site about digital cameras, for example, you’d stil promote your home page. But you would also promote separately the page about one particular brand of camera, the page about printing digital pictures and the page about camera lenses. Displaying those pages to users who are looking for those specific topics would bring in more traffic than simply telling Google or Yahoo! that the site is about “digital cameras.” That principal holds true for any website, but it’s particularly true for AdSense sites.

I spend a huge amount of time talking about the best strategies to attract users to ads and

All of those strategies have one aim though: to raise your clickthrough rate (CTR), the percentage of users who click on your ads. The more users that click, the more money you’l make in ad revenues. But you could have a CTR of 100 percent and stil barely make a
dime if you’ve only got a handful of users visiting your Web pages.
Building a successful, high-earning AdSense site then requires more than just understanding the best ways to optimize your ads (although that’s certainly important.) It also means understanding how to market your site and what you need to do to let the world know you’re out there. You can think of your site as being like a tree. The leaves and the trunk are what the public sees. But if the roots — the channels that bring nutrients to the tree (and visitors to your site) — aren’t strong and developed, it doesn’t matter how healthy the leaves look, that tree is never going to amount to much.
If you want a site that gives you healthy revenues, you need to make sure that the traffic roots that you spread out across the Web are bringing you a steady stream of valuable users.
